Project Title: The A.W.E.some Summer Olympics
Grade: First Grade
Name: Brenna Hamric and Laura Frisbee
Project Idea:Using customs and traditions of our selected Country, create an opening ceremony that includes a mascot, music and dance, and a menu that best represents the country.
Driving Question:We are going to the Olympics! How are we going to share our culture and traditions with other countries from around the world while we are at the Olympics?

Content Standards:
Social Studies-1.C.1.1 Compare the languages, traditions, and holidays of various cultures.
Social Studies-1.C.1.2 Use literature to help people understand diverse cultures.
Social Studies-1.G.1.3-understand the basic elements of geographic representations using maps (cardinal directions and map symbols)
Math-1.MD.4-Organize represent and interpret data with up to three categories, ask and answer questions about the total number of data points and how many in each category and how many more or less are in one category than in another.
ELA- SL.1.4. Describe people, places, things, and events with relevant details, expressing ideas and feelings clearly.
ELA-SL.1.5. Add drawings or other visual displays to descriptions when appropriate to clarify ideas, thoughts, and feelings.
ELA- W.1.7. Participate in shared research and writing projects (e.g., explore a number of “how-to” books on a given topic and use them to write a sequence of instructions).

Major Student Products:**
  • Create an informational text about our adopted country
  • Create a class book about our adopted country
  • Create a digital photo story about our adopted country
